The Challenge: A critical failure was identified in a roof’s lead valley, where the original bedding mortar for the valley tiles had significantly deteriorated. This compromised the weathertight integrity of the roof, posing a risk of water ingress and potential damage to the underlying structure. Loose tiles also presented a potential safety hazard.
Our Solution: Our team executed a complete strip-out and renewal of the failed valley to restore full functionality and weatherproofing.
Scope of Work:
- Investigation & Strip-Out: We carefully removed all defective valley tiles to expose the underlying lead sheet for full assessment.
- Preparation: All failed and loose mortar was thoroughly removed from the valley channel and tiles to create a clean, sound substrate for the new work.
- Tile Replacement: Damaged or broken valley tiles were replaced with new, matching tiles to ensure a consistent aesthetic and structural performance.
- Expert Re-Bedding: Each tile was meticulously re-bedded using a fresh mortar mix, applied with precision to secure the tiles, provide optimal drainage, and create a durable, long-lasting seal that protects the leadwork beneath.
Key Outcome: This comprehensive repair eliminated the risk of leaks, secured the roof against the elements, and preserved the longevity of the roof’s structure by protecting the critical lead valley beneath. The work was completed with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring both technical excellence and a seamless visual finish.
